OrangeTill works with any Bitcoin wallet. As long as you have a wallet address, you can accept payments. But “any wallet works” isn’t the same as “every wallet is the right fit for a counter.”

Some wallets are built for traders. Some are built for developers. Some require more setup than most merchants want to deal with. The ones below are the ones we actually recommend — tested, trusted, and appropriate for real businesses.

The short answer

If you just want to know which one to pick:

Muun Wallet — our top pick for most merchants

⚡ The Muun trick worth knowing
In OrangeTill Settings, you have separate fields for your Bitcoin address and your Lightning address. With Muun, you can paste the same address into both fields. Muun’s unified address accepts both on-chain and Lightning payments automatically. When a customer pays via Lightning, it routes via Lightning. When they pay on-chain, it routes on-chain. You don’t have to think about it — and neither does your customer.

Blue Wallet — for merchants who want more control

Advanced
Blue Wallet
Open-source, powerful, and flexible. Bitcoin and Lightning as separate wallets — more control, slightly more setup.
✓Full self-custody, open-source and auditable
✓Separate on-chain Bitcoin and Lightning wallets give you precise control
✓Lightning via custodial option (easy) or your own node (advanced)
✓Excellent for merchants who want to run their own Lightning node eventually
✓Available on iOS and Android
ⓘ In OrangeTill Settings, use your on-chain Bitcoin address for the Bitcoin field, and your Blue Wallet Lightning address for the Lightning field. They are different addresses in Blue Wallet — which is the main difference from Muun.

Exodus — for merchants accepting altcoins

Best for altcoins
Exodus
A beautiful multi-coin wallet that handles ETH, LTC, BCH, USDC, and more in one place. The right choice if you’re accepting beyond just Bitcoin.
✓Supports all OrangeTill coins except Lightning (use Muun or Blue Wallet for that)
✓Clean, intuitive interface — genuinely beautiful app
✓Built-in exchange lets you swap between coins
✓Available on iOS, Android, and desktop
✓Self-custody with a clear seed phrase backup
ⓘ The most practical setup for multi-coin merchants: use Exodus for your altcoin addresses (ETH, LTC, BCH, USDC etc.) and Muun for your Bitcoin and Lightning addresses. Two apps, every coin covered.

Tangem — for merchants holding serious amounts

💳 Hardware Wallet
Tangem
A credit-card-sized hardware wallet with no seed phrase to lose. When your Bitcoin balance starts to matter, Tangem is how you protect it.
✓Hardware security — private keys never leave the card
✓No seed phrase — your backup is a second card (genius design)
✓Supports Bitcoin, ETH, LTC, BCH, USDC and most major coins
✓Tap-to-sign with NFC — works with the Tangem app on iOS or Android
✓Durable, waterproof, card-sized — easy to store securely
ⓘ Tangem is not a day-to-day counter wallet — it’s where you move funds for longer-term holding. Think of it as your safe, not your cash register. Use Muun or Blue Wallet at the counter and move larger balances to Tangem periodically.

What about Coinbase?

Coinbase is a great exchange for buying, selling, and holding Bitcoin. For receiving altcoin payments at your counter it works fine — just use your Coinbase deposit address for each coin.

However, there are two things worth knowing:

Lightning on Coinbase is limited. Coinbase added Lightning Network support in early 2026, but it’s primarily for sending, not receiving via Lightning invoice. For Lightning payments at your counter, use Muun or Blue Wallet instead.

Coinbase is custodial. When crypto lands in your Coinbase account, Coinbase holds it — not you. That’s fine for short-term holding and converting to dollars, but it’s not self-custody. For amounts you want to keep in Bitcoin, a self-custody wallet is the safer long-term choice.

What to avoid at a counter

❌ Skip these for counter use
Wallets that require manual Lightning channel management — setting up and funding channels before you can receive is too much friction for a busy counter.

Exchange apps as your primary wallet — if the exchange goes down, you can’t receive payments. Self-custody wallets work independently.

Wallets you haven’t backed up — before you accept your first payment, make sure your seed phrase is written down and stored somewhere safe. This is non-negotiable.

The recommended setup for most OrangeTill merchants

Simple and complete

A note from Hodl
I have a Tangem card. My seed phrase is written on paper stored somewhere only I know. My Muun address is in OrangeTill. This took about twenty minutes to set up and I have not thought about it since. That is the goal. Set it up correctly once, then get back to running your business.

Ready to set up your wallet in OrangeTill?

Open OrangeTill, go to Settings, and paste your wallet addresses. Muun takes about five minutes to set up from scratch.
